Key Facts - Bluesky DTM
The Undelation of England and Wales in Detail
The study and analysis of our environment can be greatly enhanced with the use of a DTM. Some time ago there was a dearth in the availability of suitable DTM data. Now the Earth Observation community have a variety of DTMs to choose from. So which one should you choose to use for your study? Landmap provides access to many sources of elevation data from 75m in resolution to 25cm so firstly consider the spatial scale of your application and the intended use of the DTM with other datasets you may have.
This Bluesky 5m DTM provides the most coverage of England and Wales in the Landmap data archive, at a relatively high spatial resolution, not as high as the LiDAR but adequate for most applications especially those outside urban areas which lies outside of the Landmap LiDAR coverage (urban connurbations only).
Which DTM to use can depend very much on availability for your area of interest. Consider also the higher the spatial resolution the higher the computational resources that are needed. However, the availablility of adequately configured workstations is much improved, somewhat reducing that constraint. In some cases you might not need the high resolution and you can either use a lower resolution DTM e.g. Landmap 25m DTM or 75m SRTM or degrade a high resolution DTM in an Image Processing or GIS package.
