Processing - CIR
The CIR data contained in the Landmap archive was captured using one of two instruments Vexel UltraCams, and ADS40 from Leica Geosystems GIS & Mapping, LLC. The Vexcel is frame based, taking images of the Earth Surface in the usual manner of a digital camera each frame as a separate image. While the ADS40 utilises a pushbroom technique, i.e. a set of sensors scanning below as the aeroplane flies.
True Colour images are usually RGB, Red Green and Blue, However in the case of CIR imagery as we have here the Bands are arranged NIR,R,G. This is why all vegetation looks red in theses images, as the image being made up on the screen is dominated by the NIR. As you can see the Blue band has been replaced, by the NIR, in addition the Sequence of the bands have changed. Check the way the same image looks as the different bands are allocated (see images below).
