Getting to Know Sketch Up

In the tutorial we are going to use Google Sketch up to build a 3D world and to optimise it for performance and sharing. In this example we are going to build an airport, Luton Airport. The layout helps us develop a simple model and add features that we can then transfer into any 3D environment.

Open Google Sketch Up from the desktop Icon

You will see the following interface.

Sketch UP Interfcae entry point

Using the supplied Google SketchUp Reference Card, available via the Resources link at the top of this screen, familiarise yourself with the desktop icons.

For example can you find the following?

  • Orbit
  • Move/copy
  • Paint Bucket
  • Iso
  • Position Camera

These we shall use later in the tutorial, along with a few other tools!
